Dr. Kantardzic Publishes New Book
Dr. Mehmed Kantardzic, Professor at the Computer Engineering and Computer Science Department, University of Louisville, has published a 2nd edition of his textbook “Data Mining: Concepts, Models, Methods, and Algorithms”. The book is available in August 2011, and the publisher is John Wiley & Sons, Inc. in cooperation with IEEE Press. The first edition of the book has been adopted as a textbook at more than 100 universities and colleges all over the world, and it is translated in Chinese and Japanese, while the translation of the second edition in Spanish and Korean languages is in preparation. The second edition further discusses data mining principles and describes representative state-of-the-art methods and algorithms originating from different disciplines such as statistics, data bases, pattern recognition, machine learning, neural networks, fuzzy logic, and evolutionary computation. Detailed algorithms are given with necessary explanations, illustrative examples, and questions and exercises for practice at the end of each chapter.
Mehmed Kantardzic received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from University of Sarajevo, Bosnia. Currently, he is a Professor at the Computer Engineering and Computer Science Department, University of Louisville. He is also Director of the CECS Graduate Program, Data Mining Lab Director, and Co-Director of the Data Mining Graduate Certificate Program. His research interests include: data mining and knowledge discovery, machine learning, soft computing, click fraud detection, text mining and link analysis, sequence mining, and distributed intelligent systems. His recent research projects are supported by NSF, KSTC, US Treasury Department, and NASA. Dr. Kantardzic published more than 200 articles in refereed journals and conference proceedings including seven books. His book on data mining, published by John Wiley, is accepted as a textbook at universities all over the world. Dr. Kantardzic is a member of IEEE, IEE, ISCA, WSEAS, and SPIA.
