Dr. Elmaghraby, Dr. Graham, and Matthew Turner Contribute to IEEE Smart Grid Newsletter December 2011
In an effort to reduce its near-total dependence on coal, prepare for the prospect of lower coal exports, diversify its generation mix, modernize its grid and serve as a model to other states, Kentucky has been developing a comprehensive smart grid roadmap. Already, the roadmap team has obtained illuminating input from the state's utilities.

Three CECS Grad Students Present Online During the 2011 IEEE ICAT Conference
XXIII International Symposium on Information, Communication and Automation Technologies was held in Sarajevo on October 27-29, 2011 where Nawaf Ali, Abdullah Mohammed, and Anala Pandit presented online papers during the IEEE ICAT 2011 conference. The conference is jointly organized by Faculty of Electrical Engineering Sarajevo and IEEE Bosnia and Herzegovina Section, and co-sponsored by IEEE Control Systems Society, IEEE System, Man and Cybernetics Society and University of Louisville, USA.

Dr. Kantardzic Publishes Second Edition
Dr. Mehmed Kantardzic, Professor at the Computer Engineering and Computer Science Department, University of Louisville, has published a 2nd edition of his textbook “Data Mining: Concepts, Models, Methods, and Algorithms”. The book is available in August 2011, and the publisher is John Wiley & Sons, Inc. in cooperation with IEEE Press. The second edition further discusses data mining principles and describes representative state-of-the-art methods and algorithms originating from different disciplines such as statistics, data bases, pattern recognition, machine learning, neural networks, fuzzy logic, and evolutionary computation. Detailed algorithms are given with necessary explanations, illustrative examples, and questions and exercises for practice at the end of each chapter. More... |
