The J.B. Speed School of Engineering at the University of Louisville offers a spectrum of graduate programs at the Ph.D. and Master of Science levels. Faculty bring to the classroom extensive instructional and research experience, which contribute to the dynamic learning experience that is found in the J.B. Speed School of Engineering. Students enrolled in the graduate programs have access to world-class instructional and research facilities, including the University of Louisville's new research building, the Belknap Research Building.

Master of Engineering Admissions:

    1. A continuing J.B. Speed School of Engineering student must complete the Higher Studies application and submit to his/her department for approval. The Registrar matriculates the student into the fifth year of the M. Eng. program upon departmental recommendation.
    2. A returning J.B. Speed School of Engineering student, who has been out for more than two years, must complete the Higher Studies application and submit the application to his/her department for approval. Accepted applications are sent to Graduate School Admissions, along with the departmental admit letter for processing and matriculation.
    3. An applicant new to the University of Louisville and wishing to submit an application to an M. Eng program will complete the Higher Studies application. Upon approval, the application will be sent to Graduate Admissions for processing and matriculation into PeopleSoft.
    4. Only the EM, M. Eng. program is included on the Graduate Application. All other M. Eng. applicants must use the Higher Studies application.

Admission Requirement

The University of Louisville has a great deal to offer dedicated students looking to expand their knowledge and to enhance their careers. From our renowned faculty to the growing research facilities we place at your fingertips, your future is bright at U of L.

Any student holding a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is eligible to apply for admission to the Graduate School. Applicants should have a minimum of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale and, in most cases, should have completed an undergraduate major or the equivalent in the field in which they plan to study. Applicants who have an undergraduate major in a different discipline may be admitted with the stipulation that they complete foundation course work during their enrollment for a graduate degree.

Application Credentials

The formal application, application fee, at least two letters of recommendation, official transcripts of all college work, and official scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test (GMAT for applicants to the M.B.A. program) must be submitted to the Office of Admissions. These are required not later than thirty days before the first day of classes of the semester in which the applicant plans to enroll.

Some departments may require additional information. Applicants are advised to maintain contact with the department in which they wish to study to make sure that all required documents have been received.

    International Students

    Applications from abroad may take several months to process, so international students are urged to submit complete application materials as early as possible. Materials should be received by the University at least 12 weeks prior to the first day of classes in the semester for which admission is sought. International applicants whose native language is not English must submit Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores in addition to GRE or GMAT scores.     Tuition

    Students admitted to the fifth year of the Speed School of Engineering's five-year, integrated Master of Engineering programs will be charged the same tuition rate as undergraduate students.
