Departmental Awards:

Bioengineering Department

Joseph Henry Award In Translational Bioengineering - 2012 Recipient: Alexander Bell

The discoverer of mutual and self-inductance, and the electromagnetic relay, Henry influenced many prolific inventors such as Morse (telegraph), Marcone (radio), and Bell (telephone). However, because Henry did not protect his research, he never profited or was publicly recognized for his contributions. Thus, the Joseph Henry Award in Translational Bioengineering is based on Henry’s passion for helping translate others’ ideas into intellectual property (IP). This annual award recognizes an innovative MEng student who has, by the basis of their research and development, potentially created new IP (sole or co-inventor) and has filed an invention disclosure. The student will be awarded a $1,000 check and will have their name and the year they received the award embossed on the Joseph Henry Award Trophy, prominently displayed in the BE department..
