Be “Up to Speed”: Continuing Education for Professional Engineers
The Speed Alumni Council in collaboration with the J.B. Speed School of Engineering and the UofL Alumni Association presents the third of a series of continuing education workshops that will enable Professional Engineers to obtain required professional development hours.
Dec. 2, 2011, 12 p.m. - Cam Metcalf
Pollution Prevention (P2) for the PE: From Grass Roots to Suits
1 HR PDH workshop that meets Indiana & Kentucky standards
Cam Metcalf, Executive Director, Kentucky Pollution Prevention Center, a
renowned, inspirational pollution prevention/sustainability
practitioner will share his thirty-year journey in pollution prevention
and sustainability. He will relate his experiences and vision, and will
provide practical advice and tools for connecting to the customer and
thoughtfully employing the tools in the tool kit.
P2 programs have evolved from “grass roots to suits” - a cycle of
pollution prevention culture developed at the local level that has moved
to the centers of political leadership. P2 evolved through waste
minimization, source reduction to P2 with a multimedia approach,
resource management and efficiency practices that reduced pollution. It
has continued to expand into global environmental concepts like
sustainability, eco-efficiency, and cleaner production. While a great
deal has been accomplished, there are still many challenges ahead. The
stage is set for a new paradigm in order to make major breakthroughs.
