Why she was selected...
Over this Summer, Elizabeth help to create a new chapter of the charity Operation Smile in Kentucky through the University of Louisville. It began as an extension of IMA, but is now becoming its own RSO. The charity goes to third world countries to perform craniofacial sugeries on children who could never afford the procedures. She has undergone serious medical training to go assist physicians on mission trips and worked to raise money in the Louisville area for the charity. She has organized fund raising nights at various restaurants, such as California Pizza Kitchen, where they will donate 20% of each meal to the charity. Elizabeth is hoping to raise awareness about the charity at the University and urge other students to go on missions to help those in heed.
In addition, she works tirelessly at her studies. She is dedicated in her research in the University of Louisville's Molecular Biology and Biochemistry Department and is hoping to locate a tumor suppressor gene for ovarian cancer and first author a publication about her findings.
