CHECK OUT OUR PHOTOBUCKET!

After conducting our first survey of the University of Louisville SWE chapter, we were pleased to receive some great feedback!  We received some constructive criticism to help improve our chapter, as well as some really positive comments about what we have been doing.  Statistically, 95% of respondents would still choose to become involved with SWE after having already been involved with the section.  95% also plan to remain involved with SWE, work to be more active, and have fun with SWE.  We also received some great input on our plans to include more recognition and our intentions to implement committees.  We also gained some great insight into the other organizations with whom our members would like to collaborative in the coming months.  Thanks to those that took our survey!

WE DO ALL THAT AND MORE!!

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is a national organization which was created in 1950 to help women succeed as engineers. SWE also reaches out to young females to generate interest in engineering through K-12 programs. SWE is not solely composed of females in engineering; there are non-engineering and male members as well!

Member Spotlight

This year two members will be featured twice a semester (once during midterms and again at the end of the semester). One student will be a freshman and the other will be an upperclassman. The members chosen demonstrate the qualities of an involved SWE member. We hope all girls will strive to be featured in the member spotlight.

Freshman Spotlight: Rachel Rich                                                                             Upperclassman Spotlight: Sarah Greenwell

Rachel Rich is a current freshman majoring in chemical engineering.  She has become involved in SWE by first attending the  freshman sleepover in the summer and has attended most events since then, including our bowling, Rock Band Night and SWE Goes Downtown!

Sarah Greenwell is a fifth year chemical engineering student. Previously, she was the SWE webmaster. This year, she has attended most events and meetings, including our annual Huber's Farm trip, Rock Band Night, and our SWE Secret Santa Party.

SWEet Lunches

Every year the Univseristy of Louisville's SWE chapter holds lunches throughout the year for various occasions. SWE members make delicious homemade food, and we sell it for $5 a plate. We use this money to fund different events that we attend, such as National Conference.

This past year, we held two SWE lunches that both turned out really well. These are used to help fund several events such as, National Conference and free food at meetings. We also used some of the money and donations to help us support an Angel from the Salvation Army's Angel program at Christmas. This program allows people or groups to support a family or child and purchase clothing and toys for them. We are proud to say that we raised enough money to support 2 children, a little boy and girl.

Our summer SWEet Lunch was on July 15th, 2009 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM in Vogt 314. It was a huge success, and food was provided by many girls.  The money made from the SWEet Lunch will be used for National Conference.
