Introduction
“One thing that PhiDE definitely helped with had to do with developing connections with those at the medical school and with those already working in the medical field.” -Garrett Roney, former VP of Programming
Professional fraternities were founded to assist in the personal and professional development of individuals who have identifies a common area of interest for academic study and future professional practice. While social interaction is fostered through chapter and club affiliation, emphasis is placed on providing a resource for members to acquire a deeper knowledge and understanding in a chosen field of interest through interaction with peers, educators, and seasoned practitioners. This support creates fraternal bonds similar to social Greek organizations by providing cohesion through shared hard work and common professional goals. Professional Greek organizations are positioned to specifically address the needs of individual members on a personal level by providing a first-hand perspective on how a chosen profession will impact a member's life, family, and the community in which he or she will live and serve.
Membership in a professional fraternity has had a profound effect on the lives of more than 1,500,000 professional fraternity members throughout the world representing the professions of medicine, law, business pharmacy, nursing, and others. The personal growth, self-awareness, fellowship, shared support, friendship, and hard work has resulted in communities of caring, ethical, and committed professional being the best they can be. For members of PhiDE there has never been a time when the need for interaction in a professional fraternity has been more critical, or better represented.
