What is Phi Delta Epsilon?

Phi Delta Epsilon is an international medical coeducational organization, comprised of medical and premedical students, practicing physicians, and distinguished emeritus members, maintaining active collegiate chapters on undergraduate campuses, accredited medical and osteopathic medical schools throughout the world.  Its mission is to foster and achieve bonding among physicians of high moral character devoted to education and philanthropy for a lifetime.

Is this the UofL Medical School Chapter's website?

No, the medical school chapter does not have a website as yet. This is the website of the premedical, undergraduate chapter at the University of Louisville. The undergraduate chapter, however, has close ties to the medical school chapter, and many of the members of undergraduate chapter go on to join the medical school chapter later.

Is the Fraternity coed?

Yes, the Fraternity welcomes diversity and does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, nationality, sexual preference, or disability.

What does the Chapter do?

The Chapter engages in a number of activities oriented towards beginning a career in the medical profession and getting admitted to medical school. These include: distinguished lectureships, international conventions, regional meetings, community outreach activities, hospital tours, medical school campus tours, day-with-a-doctor and day-with-a-medical-student programs, summer medical experience placements, cookouts, local social activities, and service projects that include volunteering on hospital floors and helping victims of drug abuse, child abuse, illiteracy, homelessness, AIDS, loneliness, starvation, and disaster.

What are the advantages of joining PhiDE?

-Opportunities to develop leadership and professional skills that complement a basic understanding of medical science

-Chances to serve the community in so many ways

-Network with leading physicians, hear them talk on breakthroughs in their fields, and gain insights into the medical profession

-Find help for the MCAT, medical school applications, interviews, and listen to advice from people on admission boards

-Participate in social and extracurricular activities that complement academics

What are the requirements to join the Chapter?

Phi Delta Epsilon requires that you maintain the intention to join medical college while in the society, and reflect the moral, academic, and personal excellence indicated therein. It is now mandated that you may no miss more than 3 meeting per year and complete 10 hours of volunteer service per semester. Membership dues must be paid in full (New Members: US$150, Current Members: US$100)
You do not have to be an upperclassman to join PhiDE. There is no official minimum GPA to join, but a poor scholastic record suggested by a GPA less than 3.0 drastically reduces the chances to gain membership.
Officers are held to a higher standard and are required to attend more meetings and service projects. In addition, they are required to fulfill the responsibilities of their position in a self-motivated fashion.
