Department of Physics and Astronomy

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Louisville encourages students to get involved in research as early as possible in order to enrich their educational experience. The students have opportunities to perform research work side-by-side with faculty members, senior post-doctoral researchers, and graduate students. Currently, the department has research expertise in areas such as nanoscience, fiber optics, magneto-optics, observational astronomy, particle accelerator experiments, planetary science, atomic physics, and theoretical and computational condensed matter physics. Limited scholarships and awards for undergraduates are possible through the Ouseph Freshman Scholarship fund, W. M. Bullitt Astronomy award, and the Bennett award (Seniors). Some faculty members may have funds to support undergraduates through their extramural or internal grants. For more information see the Physics and Astronomy Current Undergraduate web site, email or call 852-6790.
