Responsible Conduct of Research Seminar  Series Webinar:  Prepare a More Competitive Major Research Instrumentation Grant Application for NSF.

Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at 2:00-3:00 pm, Vogt 311

Writing a research grant is no small feat but applying for NSF’s Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) compounds the complexity tenfold. This complex proposal format is significantly different from the standard research grant application.  Dr Karin Markin will dig into the unique aspects of the MRI application and give you expert advice on how to optimize your application and make it stand out.

Join Dr. Karin Marking on Dec 8th as she helps you avoid the common pitfalls in MRI proposals such as:

  1. Inadequate management plan for equipment
  2. Insufficient evidence of institutional commitment to project
  3. Failure to identify sufficient number of users of the equipment
  4. Broader impacts not addressed separately in summary and in proposal
  5. Supplemental documents missing.

You'll walk-away with proven strategies on:

  1. Program criteria for MRI and what it has supports, including examples and award rates
  2. Tips from successful applicants on addressing specific issues, such as shared use and the management plan
  3. How to address the broader impacts criterion
  4. Review of special documentation required for MRI
  5. How to set your project apart from the crowd.
