Materials Transfer

All Material Transfer Agreements are handled by the Contract and Compliance Division of the Office of Technology Transfer, currently managed by Melea East, J.D. (Deputy Director, OTT) and staffed by Matthew J. Hawthorne, J.D. (Contract and Compliance Specialist).

To put a Material Transfer Agreement (INCOMING or OUTGOING) in place, please complete the following process:

• For Materials coming IN to UofL from Outside   Agencies/Companies/Universities:
• Once you obtain a Material Transfer Agreement ("MTA") (or the contact information for requesting an agreement) from the other party, contact the OTT at 852-2965
• An OTT staff member will call you within 2 days to discuss your needs and to go over some questions designed to aid in review of the MTA if necessary.
• The OTT staff member will complete an initial review and have a first response out to company contact within 7 business days (cc'ing you if desired).
• The OTT staff member will initially follow up once a week with your contact during negotiation of terms.
• An OTT staff member will follow up once every two weeks after the agreement is finalized to ensure an executed agreement is returned to the OTT.
• For Materials going OUT to Outside Agencies/Companies/Universities from UofL:
• Contact the OTT at 852-2965
• An OTT staff member will call you within 2 days to discuss your needs and to go over some questions designed to aid in review of the MTA if necessary.
• The OTT staff member will draft an MTA and send it out to company contact within 7 business days (cc'ing you if desired).
• The OTT staff member will initially follow up once a week with your contact during negotiation of terms.
• An OTT staff member will follow up once every two weeks after the agreement is finalized to ensure an executed agreement is returned to the OTT
