Nonclinical Industry Collaborations Information for Researchers
The Division of Nonclinical Industry Collaborations (NIC) specializes in providing support to establish relationships between UofL and industry/for-profit organizations, for activities that do not involve participation of or require informed consent by human subjects. (The OIC Clinical Research Services Division handles industry-sponsored clinical trials/studies.) Nonclinical Industry Collaborations interacts with UofL faculty, staff, and administrative offices, and representatives of external organizations. We review and approve non-clinical proposals to, and draft, review, and negotiate appropriate contracts with commercial organizations. Agreements handled by NIC include sponsored research, subaward (e.g., for SBIR/STTR projects supported by Federal funding "flow-through" via small business concerns), service, and non-disclosure/confidentiality agreements. Our responsibility is to assist the formation of mutually beneficial University-industry/for-profit relationships, while ensuring compliance with applicable University, state and Federal policies and procedures, especially with regard to intellectual property, publication, and confidentiality. By doing so, the Division of Nonclinical Industry Collaborations supports the University's mission to ensure the continuity of its research programs, the integrity of its academic freedoms, and the utilization of research results for the public benefit.
