Important Recent Changes in the NIH AREA (R15) grant program

• The NIH R15 parent announcement (PA-18-504) no longer accepts applications involving clinical trials. If you are using human subjects it is important to determine whether your research is considered a clinical trial before applying  (see https://grants.nih.gov/ct-decision/index.htm). Please note that not all NIH Institutes participate in this funding opportunity.
• The National Institute for General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) no longer accepts R15 applications under the NIH Parent R15 funding opportunity announcement (PA-18-504). Rather NIGMS R15 applications must be submitted via PAR-18-714. Eligibility for this award is restricted to Undergraduate-Focused Institutions, and does not accept applications involving clinical trials.
• NIH R15 applications involving clinical trials may be directed to (PA-18-343). However, only eight (8) NIH Institutes (NIDCH, NIBIB, NIGHD, NIMH, NINR, NIA, NIMHD, NCI) accept applications through this mechanism.
