Definitions

Approved - The study was approved as submitted at the Committee meeting. You will receive an approval letter in the mail, at that time you are free to begin your research.

Contingency Approval - The Committee determined that the study was sound, but that some changes need to be made. You will receive a letter from the IRB detailing the stipulations. You are required to respond in writing to these stipulations, and may not begin your research until you have received final written approval from the IRB.

Deferred - The Committee determined that before approval can be granted, more information is needed. You are required to complete the request, and may not begin your research until you have received final written approval from the IRB. This response will be returned to the committee so please observe the dates given in this letter for the next meeting of this Committee.

Delayed – The weather did not warrant a meeting; The reviewer did not come to the meeting or had to leave before they could present the study; The meeting lost quorum. The study will be rescheduled to the next convened meeting and you will receive a delayed letter in the mail.

Letter of Receipt - action needed - The Committee reviewed the material presented and determined that some changes need to be made or that more information is needed. You are required to respond in writing to these requests within a reasonable amount of time. You will receive a request letter in the mail.

Letter of Receipt - no action needed - The Committee reviewed the material presented, however, no IRB action is needed. You will receive a letter in the mail.

Hold for Training - The Committee reviewed the material but will not approve until all training is completed for all key personnel on the study.

Not Approved - The Committee has determined that the study submitted for review should not proceed.
