George Pack, Ph.D.

Dr. Pack completed his Ph.D. in Biophysics at the Roswell Park Memorial Institute division of the graduate school of the State University of New York at Buffalo in  1973.   He did postdoctoral research in Chemistry at the University of Rochester (1974-75), at the Institute for Environmental Medicine at NYU Medical Center (1974-75) and in Genetics at the Stanford University Medical Center (1975-1978).  He was Professor of Biophysics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine (Rockford) until 1998 when he joined the faculty of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Louisville as Professor and Chair, a position that he retains.  He spent a sabbatical year (1985-86) in the Laboratory of Chemical Physics at the NIH campus in Bedthesda, MD.  His research interests are in theoretical and computation biophysical chemistry.  He has received numerous grants from the NIH and others to support his work and he has authored some 60 research articles.  He is a member of the Biophysical Society, AAAS and the American Chemical Society and chairs the Kentucky DoD EPSCoR committee.  He recently received the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Departmental Leadership in the College of Arts and Sciences.  He has served as Associate Vice President for Research since April, 2007.
