Robert Smith, PhD

Rob Smith, Ph.D., is a commercialization manager with the Commercialization EPI-Center, where his primary responsibilities include assessing, licensing, and managing intellectual property within the field of life sciences.

After receiving an undergraduate degree in chemistry from Western Kentucky University, Rob earned a Ph.D. in medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry from the University of Mississippi. Before joining the team at UofL, he worked as a Technology Transfer and Patent Specialist at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, a component of the National Institutes of Health.

Rob enjoys working with inventors and like-minded people to solve complex problems. A true jack-of-all-trades, he actively keeps up with the latest advancements in technology; specifically, those relating to drug discovery, computer science, linguistics, and astronomy. In addition to his technical fluency, Rob also speaks Portuguese and enjoys traveling to Brazil, where he has previously taught English to Brazilian nationals.
