Community Outreach
Community Outreach Activities
The primary goal of community outreach activities is to translate major research findings generated by the Superfund Program into concepts that can be easily adopted by residents of West Louisville, particularly childbearing females and their relatives. The ultimate goal is to build a self-sustainable program that persists within the community of West Louisville and helps to promote community as well as individual growth.
Community health educators and other professional staff involved in the prenatal care clinics working with women of childbearing age (13-45 years old), members of the Neighborhood Places and their Councils, and community residents in West Louisville will be educated on the impact of hazardous chemical exposures on human health and disease. The educational programs will focus on environmental exposures that influence reproductive health, children’s health, and pregnancy outcomes and how environmental factors and lifestyle practices influence health outcomes.
Activities:
WJCCTF was established by the Jeffereson County Division of Environmental Health and Protection to identify environmental problems in the West Louisville Area. U of L EOH representatives work with this task force and help guide research and activities.
