BRAAN2 DOS AND DON'TS:

Don't use browser back/forward buttons
Don't use the X in the upper-right corner of window (don't "x out")
Don't log into more than one session of BRAAN2 on the same computer
Don't use the consent form builders or HIPAA form builders 
Don't use any SYMBOLS (i.e, >, <, etc.)
Don't paste any tables, charts or images into BRAAN2.

Do read the User's Guide (BRAAN2 User's Guide)
Do set your pop-up blockers correctly (BRAAN2 pop-up blocker setting instructions)
Do set your filters correctly (BRAAN2 filter setting instructions)
Do notify individuals responsible for signatures when you submit a protocol
Do read the FAQ page
Do logout of BRAAN2 when you are done with your session

SCREEN FLICKERING??

 We have had several reports recently about computer screens "flickering" when BRAAN2 is accessed using Internet Explorer Version 8 (IE8). If you plan to use IE8 to access BRAAN2, please complete the following steps. 1)Please open your internet browser - IE8 2) bring up the BRAAN2 login page, and then, 3) on the top right side of the browser click on the Tools drop down (this is in the panel across the top of IE8, not in BRAAN2) and 4) click on Compatibility View. If Compatibility View is not available, click on Compatibility View Settings and 5) make sure that louisville.edu is listed under "Websites you've added to Compatibility View." If not, add louisville.edu to the list. 6)Also check (at the bottom of the Comp. View Settings) "Display all websites in Compatibility View" should be checked.

DO NOT USE HIPAA OR CONSENT FORM BUILDERS IN BRAAN2:

Use of the HIPAA and Consent Form Builders has been suspended while the current bugs/issues are being resolved. Until further notice, please attach your HIPAA documents and consent forms to the MISC. ATTACHMENTS page of the IRB PROTOCOL, under the section "Approval Attachments". Before submitting your protocol, please delete any HIPAA or consent form builders you may have started working on.

New HIPAA forms have been posted on the IRB Website and should be utilized and attached in BRAAN2.

Use of the new HIPAA Forms is mandatory as of April 1, 2009. New studies submitted with the old format will be returned.

ALL POP-UP BLOCKERS MUST BE TURNED OFF IN ORDER TO USE BRAAN2

This includes your Internet Explorer Pop-Up Blocker, as well as GOOGLE, YAHOO or any other POP-UP BLOCKER.

BRAAN2 does not recognize CHARTS, TABLES, IMAGES, or SYMBOLS (i.e., <, >, ß, etc.)  

If you use any of these items in your submission the IRB will not be able to view it and it will be sent back to you to be corrected.

CONTINUATION REVIEWS:

Continuation Review (CR) Consent Forms and HIPAA document attachments: If your consent and/or HIPAA documents were submitted as attachments in the MISC Attachments section of your original BRAAN2 submission, add your CR attachments to the MISC Attachments section of the IRB PROTOCOL showing in the bottom part of your screen. Please use the following naming convention when adding your CR documents: 2009 CR dated _____
Examples:
2009 CR consent dated _____
2009 CR research authorization dated_____
2009 CR partial waiver dated______
2009 CR protocol dated_____
2009 CR protocol synopsis dated_____
DO NOT delete the previous versions of your documents from your attachments!

Amendments that include protocol changes as well as other items may be submitted together, if you follow the instructions located at the following link: Amendment Instructions

EXPIRED TRAINING OR COI:

Expired COI: When a PI tries to submit a protocol and is stopped by the pop-up box indicating that COI is expired, COI refers to the Disclosure of Significant Financial Interest Form located on the Office of Research Integrity Website. Please Note: Once the you update your training or Significant Financial Interest Form, it will take 24 hours for the Office of Research Integrity to update the data which feeds BRAAN2. Please use BRAAN2 to submit actions on new studies or studies that were originally submitted through BRAAN2. 

 As of  8/13/07, we stopped accepting new studies in paper.

For active studies that were originally submitted in paper: please continue to submit all actions (i.e, amendments, continuing reviews, etc.) in paper.
