Advising Procedures for Continuing Students
Some advisors may not be available for for advising during the Continuing Registration period. Please check with your advising unit for available advising times. How will the registration system know that I have been advised? Your academic advisor will set the advising code in the computer. Faculty advisors without computer access will refer students who have earned fewer than 24 program hours to the Advising Center to have their advising code set. These students will need to present registration forms signed by their faculty advisor. Where do I go for advising?
Sign-up will take place from 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 - 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday during this period. Evening advising will be available only for those students enrolled in evening and weekend courses. Eligible students should plan to sign up for advising between 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. (Tuesdays and Wednesdays only). Advising for the Spring 2009 semester will take place October 20-23; October 27-October 30; and November 3-6. Students will be seen on a first come, first-served, space available basis. College of Education and Human DevelopmentGraduate Students: contact faculty advisor. Advising is not required if a program is on file and all admission credentials have been received. If you receive a message on the web registration system that informs you that you need to be advised, call 502/852-5597 for assistance. Undergraduate Students: Students with less than 30 semester hours earned at the time of registration must be advised. In addition, students on academic probation, and first semester transfer students must be advised. Please contact the Education Advising Center at 852-5597 to schedule an appointment with an academic counselor. Current students in good academic standing with more than 60 semester hours earned should contact their faculty advisor if assistance is needed. Graduate SchoolGraduate students must contact their departmental advisor or mentor for advising. Interdisciplinary students should contact their committee chairperson. School of Nursing students who need advising should contact the Office of Student Services at 852-1196 to schedule an appointment. Advisors' offices are located at the Health Science Center, and appointments are available on Belknap during registration for continuing undergraduate students. Any student not in one of the above categories is encouraged to schedule an advising appointment if assistance is needed regarding course selection. J. B. Speed School of EngineeringThe general advising requirement for undergraduate Speed School students is that advising is required for all students who have earned fewer than 60 semester hours or have not been admitted to their department. All students are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor prior to registration. Engineering Fundamentals students report to JS 213, and students admitted to departments report to the departmental office for appointments, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, Computer Engineering and Computer Science, and the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department require all of their students to be advised. In these departments, it will be necessary for an academic advisor to set an advising code to clear the student registration. Newly admitted students to the Bio-Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Mechanical Engineering departments are required to meet with an advisor for the semester they are admitted to the department. Students with more than 60 credit hours are not required to meet with an advisor in subsequent terms, but are strongly encouraged to do so.
