Degree Information - Spring 2023

    If you are planning to receive your degree, you will need to fill out a degree application online. The degree application process will be available on the Web through ULink (ulink.louisville.edu). 

    The application period is: 

    • Spring 2023 = November 15, 2022 – April 14, 2023 

    All candidates for degrees, whether or not participating in Commencement, must apply for degrees according to the deadlines above. 

    After the online form is submitted, you will receive an online confirmation that it was successful. You will also receive confirmation by email to your university account. You will not hear anything regarding the status of your degree application until after the semester grades are in and an advisor in your enrollment unit can review for approval. If you have any questions regarding eligibility or qualification of degree requirements, please contact your advisor. 

    GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS (Please also check for your school's specific instructions below.) If your major is incorrect, contact your school's Advising Center immediately. Do not complete your application at this time.  

    • Please visit the Commencement website at http://www.louisville.edu/commencement for information on Commencement. You must order your apparel at this website as well. You can expect to receive an email from the Registrar's Office 8-10 weeks after the semester ends, informing you where to pick up your diploma. 

    • You are responsible for checking your UofL email account for official notices and information regarding graduation. Please take this opportunity while you are on ULink to also check the accuracy of your address and phone information. You may review and update this information under the 'Personal Info’ menu. This information may also be used for correspondence. 

    • In order to continue registering as an undergraduate student after receiving your degree, you will need to reapply to the University through the Office of Admissions. 

    DIPLOMAS 

    Diplomas will arrive at the Registrar's office approximately eight to ten weeks after the end of each term/semester. An email notification will be sent to all graduates when diplomas arrive and are ready to be picked up. When you pick up your diploma, be sure to verify that your name is spelled correctly and that your diploma includes any special notations, if applicable (honors, etc.). You may have someone pick up your diploma for you. 

    If you live out of town, your diploma can be mailed to you. After the diploma arrival date, students may call/email the Registrar’s Office at (502) 852-6522 / regoff@louisville.edu to arrange mailing. Diplomas cannot be mailed to local addresses including: Anchorage, Buckner, Clarksville, Crestwood, Goshen, Jeffersonville, LaGrange, Louisville, Mt. Washington, New Albany, Pewee Valley, Prospect or Shepherdsville. 

    If you wish to order a duplicate diploma, you may do so online at http://louisville.edu/registrar/forms/replacement-diploma-form.  The fee is $25. 

     

    UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS 

    COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES: 

    • You should not complete the application for Spring unless you plan to finish all your degree requirements by May 30, 2023. 

    • Please make a copy of your application for graduation as it will serve as your receipt and proof that you have applied for graduation. 

    • If you are taking courses at another school as a visiting student, contact your advisor in the A&S Advising Center, 852-5502, and tell them what courses you are taking. You must also submit a transcript of your grades by 4:30 p.m. May 30, 2023 or your application for graduation will be canceled. 

    • Please let the A&S Advising Center know if you are removing incompletes. Incompletes received must be removed and grades posted by 4:30 p.m. May 30, 2023 or your application for graduation will be canceled. 

    • Check with your major department about completion of any specific learning outcomes assessment activities that may be required for graduation. 

    • Ordinarily, you will not receive notification of degree approval or disapproval until after the application deadline of April 14, 2023.  

     

    COLLEGE OF BUSINESS: 

    • Applicants should schedule an appointment with your COB Advisor to review remaining requirements. You can do so by coming to room 39 of the COB Bldg. or calling 852-7439. 

    • If you are taking courses at another institution as a visiting student, you must have a visiting student letter on file. You must submit an official transcript from that institution immediately upon completion of those courses with your grades posted.  

     

    COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT: 

    • Once CEHD receives and evaluates your application for degree, you will receive a letter indicating your graduation status. If you have any questions, please call 852-5597 or e-mail edadvise@louisville.edu. 

    • If you are taking courses at another institution as a visiting student, please call 852-5597 to verify that you have a visiting student letter on file. You must submit an official transcript from that institution, with your grades posted, by May 30, 2023 in order to be approved for your degree. 

    • If you are completing teacher certification with your degree, you must also complete an application for teacher certification (CA-1) form. The form is available in the Education Building, Room 124. 

     

    SCHOOL OF MUSIC: 

    • Applicants are encouraged to request a preliminary degree check before submitting the application for degree to review remaining requirements. Call School of Music Advising at 852-0517. 

     

    SCHOOL OF NURSING: 

    • If you are taking or have taken courses at another school as a visiting student, you should call the Director of Student Services at 852-8298, and tell her what courses you are taking. You must also submit an official transcript of your grades in order for your degree to be confirmed. 

    • Please check with the Director of Student Services if you are removing Incompletes. Incompletes must be converted to grades by May 30, 2023 in order for your degree to be conferred. 

     

    J. B. SPEED SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING: 

    • If you are registered for your final Co-op during the semester you are applying for your degree you must submit your co-op report on or before the last day of classes. 

    • M.Eng. candidates writing a thesis may go to the Speed web site for additional requirements/deadlines for submitting the thesis. 

    • All Incompletes and Deferred grades must be cleared up before the end of the semester in which you are applying for degree. 

    • Civil and Environmental Engineering candidates should contact the CEE Dept. regarding an exit interview. 

    • You will be notified if the preliminary degree check reveals any deficiency. Contact your academic advisor if you have questions regarding degree requirements. 

     

    GRADUATE STUDENTS

    • If you are applying to graduate and are not currently registered, contact your unit dean's office. 

    • If your major is incorrect, contact your unit dean's office immediately. Do not complete this application at this time. 

    • Students writing a Thesis or Dissertation should contact Courtney Kerr to review their Thesis or Dissertation prior to turning in the final copy. You may contact our office by phone or contact Ms. Kerr directly by email at clkerr01@louisville.edu. 

    • Deadline to submit a Thesis or Dissertation for Spring 2023 is April 29, 2023. 

    • Please visit the Commencement website at http://www.louisville.edu/commencement for information on Commencement. You can expect to receive an email from the Registrar's Office 8-10 weeks after the semester ends, informing you where to pick up your diploma. 

    • All communication from the will be sent to your University of Louisville email address. Please check that account for messages from your unit or other offices within the University. 

    • If you have any questions or concerns regarding your graduation, feel free to contact Graduate School by phone at (502) 852-6495 or by e-mail at graduate@louisville.edu. Their campus address is 105 Houchens Building. 

    • For your records, please print a copy of the degree application when you apply. This will provide proof that you have applied for your degree. 

    • Please note that your degree application is effective for the current semester in which you applied to receive your degree. In the event that you do not complete requirements to receive your degree in the semester in which you applied, you will need to reapply for the semester in which you plan to graduate. Applications for degree do not roll over to the next semester. 

    • In order to continue registering as a graduate student after graduation, you will need to reapply to the University through the Office of Graduate Admissions.
