Current Contract provides in excess of 1700 Recycled items.

27.6% (6,995 items) of all office products purchased by UofL Departments had a recycled content.
- The University purchased 2,452 recycled toner cartridges through the established contract.
- For every cartridge that is remanufactured, over a pound of plastics is withheld from the waste stream.
- The University Stockroom purchased 106,000 reams of recycled copy paper for departmental use.
- Represents 100% of Copy Paper usage on UofL campuses.
- The University of Louisville Printing Services purchased more than 1,609 cases of recycled paper products for use on printing jobs.
- Requirement of outside printing companies to also use recycled paper on all UofL print jobs.
- Every ton of recycled paper uses 64% less energy, 50% less water and causes 74% less air pollution than the same quantity of paper from virgin wood pulp.
Recycling Programs
- Shredding of paper and recycled thru the University's contractor resulted in 363,600 pounds shredded and recycled, saving in excess of 1,818 trees.
- Every time two shredding containers are filled a tree is saved.
- Recycling of toner cartridges by University contractor resulted in 2,743 toner cartridges being recycled.
- The University established a contract in 2009 for single stream recycling on all campuses which is anticipated to reduce landfill use by 30%. This percentage represents 1,955,020 pounds of trash diverted from the landfill in 2011.
- Electronic Scrap Recycling Contract sent 79,583 pounds for recycling.
Other
- The University Stockroom purchases, stocks and supplies green certified products for use by all University Departments.
- University Dorms are maintained utilizing Green Products supplied by the University contractor.
- All computers purchased are Energy Star Compliant.
- All refrigerators purchased are Energy Star Compliant.
- The University purchases recycled aluminum sign blanks, parking stops, speed bumps and post for use in traffic control and parking lots.
- New Construction and Major Renovations Projects are designed for LEED Certification.
- Construction Firms required to recycle construction waste.
