How to Request and Use E-mail Discussion Lists
By Mark Crane

As a UofL instructor, you can create discussion lists (listservs) to use in your class.

First, fill out the form at http://uofl.louisville.edu/it/listserv/lsrequestform.html.

Your list will be given a unique name,  such as BIO314@listserv.louisville.edu. As the list owner, you will be automatically subscribed.

Before your class can use the list, they will need to subscribe. Have your students send an e-mail message to listserv@listserv.louisville.edu and filling in their own names as follows:

to:listserv@listserv.louisville.edu
cc:
Attachment:
Subject:
-------Message Text-------
subscribe BIO314 Student's Name

Note that the subject line is blank. As this instruction is sent to a computer program, spelling counts! The listserv program will reply, typically: "Your subscription to the list BIO314 (BIO314—discussion of applied ecology) has been accepted."

Once the listserv is running, e-mail to BIO314@listserv.louisville.edu will be redistributed to each member of the list, facilitating discussion.
