Amber CarrierThe Office for LBGT Services presented its first student ally award to Amber Carrier April 18, 2011 at the 12th annual Student Life Awards ceremony. The annual event celebrates outstanding student achievements in all aspects of campus life.

As a doctoral student studying evolutionary medicine, Carrier works to incorporate LGBTQ-inclusive lessons in her curriculum as a teaching assistant and is an advocate for LGBTQ and gender non-conforming patients.  As president of the Graduate Student Council last year, Carrier worked to develop and fund a graduate assistant position for the Office for LGBT Services and remains an active ally to the office.

After learning she had won the award, Carrier said, “I am floored, honored, and grateful.”

From this year on, the award will be called “The Amber Carrier Student Ally Award” in honor of Carrier’s advocacy for the LGBTQ community at the University of Louisville.
Congratulations, Amber!
