In Open Session

The Personnel Committee of the University of Louisville Board of Trustees met on Wednesday, March 23, 2005, in the Jefferson Room of Grawemeyer Hall, Belknap Campus, with members present and absent as follows:

I. Call to Order

Having determined a quorum present, Chair Forman called the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m.

Approval of Minutes, February 10, 2005

Ms. Denny made a motion, which Ms. Worland seconded, to approve the minutes of February 10, 2005. The motion passed unanimously.

II. Action Item: Approval of Designation of Ekstrom Library Auditorium for
Elaine Chao

President Ramsey noted Elaine Chao, President Bush’s Secretary of Labor, has had a distinguished career in public service. Several years ago, the University presented Ms. Chao with an honorary degree to recognize her support of the University and her adopted state of Kentucky. She is an excellent role model for women interested in careers in public affairs, and she brings distinction to Kentucky and UofL in her adopted alumna status. Dr. Ramsey observed the appropriateness in associating Ms. Chao with this auditorium in the new wing of the Ekstrom Library. The President also noted the university-wide faculty committee on designations supports the proposal. Mr. Stone praised Ms. Chao for her service as secretary of labor and concurred with the recommendation. Mr. Stone commended Dr. Ramsey for bringing this designation forward. Ms. Loving made a motion, which Ms. Worland seconded, to approve the

President’s recommendation that an auditorium in the Ekstrom Library be named for Elaine Chao

The motion passed unanimously.

III. Executive Session

Pursuant to KRS 61.810(1)(f), Ms. Denny made a motion, which Ms. Loving seconded, to go into executive session at 2:40 p.m. to discuss personnel matters. The motion passed unanimously.

IV. Open Meeting Reconvenes

Chair Forman reconvened the open session at 2:55 p.m. and reported the Committee discussed personnel recommendations and the 2005 Alumni Fellows nominations during executive session.

Personnel Recommendations

Provost Willihnganz thanked Dr. Dave Howarth and Ms. Carolyn Cochran for their hard work reviewing the personnel recommendations. The Provost noted the review was extensive because of the many faculty under consideration for promotion and tenure. Ms. Denny made a motion, which Ms. Worland seconded, to approve the

President’s recommendation that the following personnel recommendations be approved by the Board of Trustees.

Bruce Edwards, B.S.; change of status from Acting Information Security Officer to Information Security Officer, April 15, 2005. The appointment as Information Security Officer is at the pleasure of the Board of Trustees.
