Derby weekend at UofL
May 5, 2011

Dear Friends of UofL,

    Derby weekend is an exciting and important time for the University of Louisville because it gives us tremendous exposure to people from around the world.
     
    I want to share with you the exciting things I am discussing with the media, potential donors and visitors to Louisville:
    • Our university continues to produce some of the nation's top students, next month we hope to again announce a leading number of Fulbright Scholars.
    • During the Derby, UofL students from our nursing and Latin American studies programs are on the backside helping translate and provide medical attention.
    • UofL's James Graham Brown Cancer Center, a leader in attacking tobacco-based cancers, holds the Julep Ball every year during this week to raise funds to support their research.
    • Our medical and dental students participated in Medals4Mettle as part of last week's Derby marathon.  The students run the marathon and donate their medals to cancer patients.
    Go Cards and have fun at this year's Kentucky Derby.
