Ground/Overnight Shipping (UPS, FedEx, DHL) Procedures
United Parcel Service (UPS) is the preferred vendor for the University of Louisville and all departments should utilize this service. UPS offers Next Day Air and Second Day Air for same day pick-up and after hours service. Ground shipments are to be shipped through Postal Services. The Belknap location is equipped with a UPS manifest system. As an alternative, if you would like to ship packages via internet shipping, you may use UPS CampusShip.

Procedures
Procedures for preparing UPS ground shipments:
- Write the complete shipping address on each package. Ground packages cannot be shipped to a P.O. Box*.
- Complete, sign, and attach the UPS Shipment Form to each package.
- UPS Shipment forms without a signature will not be accepted.
- You may specify "$0.00" if there is no value.
- Give the package(s) to your campus mail carrier or drop off at one of Postal Services offices by 2:00pm.
Procedures for preparing Next Day, Second Day:
- Complete a Next Day or Second Day airbill/waybill for each envelope/package.
- The sender’s and receiver's complete address must be filled in, including the phone number whenever possible.
- Speedtype should be written in the shipper’s reference area on the airbill/waybill. If the party you are sending the item to or receiving from is responsible for payment of the item, please include their correct customer account number. If not, you will be held responsible for payment of that bill or a rebilling fee.
- Give the envelope(s)/package(s) to your campus mail carrier, place in a UPS drop box, call UPS (1-800-PICK-UPS) to schedule a pick-up, or drop off at one of Postal Services offices by 2:00pm.
Procedures for preparing International shipments: (For sending international express packages, UPS offers faster delivery.)
- Complete an international airbill/waybill for each envelope/package.
- The sender’s and receiver's complete address must be filled in, including the phone number whenever possible.
- Speedtype should be written in the shipper’s reference area on the airbill/waybill. If the party you are sending the item to or receiving from is responsible for payment of the item, please include their correct customer account number. If not, you will be held responsible for payment of that bill or a rebilling fee.
- If you are shipping anything other than documents, you must also complete and attach three (3) copies of the commercial invoice form in a plastic pouch. (Plastic pouches can be ordered from UPS by calling 1-800-377-4877.)
- Give the package(s) to your campus mail carrier, place in a UPS drop box, or drop off at one of Postal Services offices by 2:00pm.
By using the tracking number on your copy of the pre-printed form, you can track delivery of your package and get confirmation of delivery from the UPS Web page.
*United States Postal Service (USPS) may be used when a P.O. Box is the only address available or when Saturday delivery is necessary.
