Internships
The Department of Political Science provides a variety of internship opportunities to our majors and minors. Internships are available in national, state, and local government; political campaigns; mass communications; nonprofit organizations; and advocacy groups. All interns have a faculty mentor from the Department of Political Science, and with very few exceptions, internship requirements include the completion of a 15 to 20 page paper that may be based on research related to the internship position. Examples of papers students have written include:
- “The Effectiveness of Contacting Voters during a State Legislative Race”
- “The Economics of Social Security Reform”
- “Legislators’ Receptiveness to Lobby Efforts”
- “Handling Constituent Casework”
- “Candidate-Reporter Relationships in the Louisville Mayoral Primary”
