Biography
Prior to accepting the position at Louisville in 2006, Jason Gainous was a Visiting Professor at the University of Southern Mississippi and a Visiting Instructor at Southern Illinois University. He was born in Lakeland, Florida and did his undergraduate work in political science at Florida Atlantic University before receiving a Masters Degree and Ph.D. in political science from the University of Florida.
His research interests include American politics, public opinion and political behavior, the Internet and politics, political psychology, survey research, and methodology. Dr. Gainous has published various book chapters and articles in journals including American Politics Research, Political Research Quarterly, Political Communication, and Statistical Science among others. Additionally, he has a coauthored book entitled Click and Reboot: How the Internet is Revolutionizing American Politics (Rowman and Littlefield). His research has won awards from the American Political Science Association, the Kentucky Political Science Association, and the Florida Political Science Association.
He has taught various classes including American Federal Government, Public Opinion, Research Methods (Graduate and Undergraduate), Graduate Introduction to Statistics, and the Internet and Politics, among others. Additionally, he serves as the Frankfort Internship Advisor placing students as interns in Kentucky’s capital with various state legislators.
Aside from his interest in politics, Dr. Gainous enjoys spending time with his wife Sherry and daughter Bella. In addition, he is an avid skateboarder and plays guitar.
