Meteorites: Messengers From Space

May 18, 4 - 5 PM

Meteorites bearing 4 billion-year-old messages from space reveal information that has been frozen in time about the formation of the solar system. Join Dr. Tom Tretter as he shares what we have learned from these ancient messengers. Board our virtual spaceship and be engulfed in our solar system as we take you on a journey that tells the story of asteroids and the meteorites that come from them – from formation of the solar system, to dinosaur killer, to recent examples, to future plans to capture an asteroid and park it in orbit around our Moon.

The presentation will end with an unveiling of the spectacular meteorite collection that has been donated to the Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium by William and Mary Ann Russell.

The presentation is free and open to the public. Click here for driving directions and parking information.

Please join us earlier in the day for our National Astronomy Day Celebration, 1 PM - 4 PM, $5/person (members get in FREE).
