2008 African Philosophy Conference
(Ekstrom Library, from

Nov 01, 2008 12:25 PM)
- Reason, Culture, and Humanism: The Philosophy of Kwasi Wiredu University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky, USA October 31 - November 1, 2008 For over two decades now, discussions in and on African philosophy have had as much and significant influence on African Studies as it has contributed to new dimensions in the study of culture and in the discipline of philosophy more broadly. The academic endeavors have given African philosophy global recognition in many academic fields. At the center of these discussions has been the relation between reason and culture, a theme that intersects with Twentieth Century pluralists orientations and the emergence of a new humanism in global contexts. Many African scholars, and philosophers especially, have contributed to these influences of African philosophy. While the conference celebrates the philosophical career of Kwasi Wiredu, it also offers an opportunity for scholars in African philosophy to revisit the contributions of African philosophy and other philosophers to the growth of academic knowledge of Africa more broadly.
