SUMMARY:2008 African Philosophy Conference
DTSTART:20081031T162500Z
DTEND:20081101T162500Z
DESCRIPTION:Reason\, Culture\, and Humanism\: The Philosophy of Kwasi
 Wiredu\nUniversity of Louisville\, Louisville\, Kentucky\, USA\nOctobe
 r 31 - November 1\, 2008\n\n For over two decades now\, discussions in
and on African philosophy have had as much and significant influence
on African Studies as it has contributed to new dimensions in the stud
y of culture and in the discipline of philosophy more broadly. The ac
ademic endeavors have given African philosophy global recognition in m
any academic fields. At the center of these discussions has been the
relation between reason and culture\, a theme that intersects with Twe
ntieth Century pluralists orientations and the emergence of a new huma
nism in global contexts. Many African scholars\, and philosophers esp
ecially\, have contributed to these influences of African philosophy.
While the conference celebrates the philosophical career of Kwasi Wir
edu\, it also offers an opportunity for scholars in African philosophy
to revisit the contributions of African philosophy and other philosop
hers to the growth of academic knowledge of Africa more broadly.
