PeopleSoft SAS/HRMS Implementation
Quarterly Report
July-September 1999
During this quarter, printing and distribution
of paychecks were the first campus-wide experience with the ORION system.
Biweekly payrolls have been completed largely without disruption, in part
because the records-keeping for classified employees is less complex than
for many monthly employees, who may be paid from more than one account
and pay group. Monthly paychecks have been timely delivered to most
people, but delays in payments to part-time lecturers, graduate students
and payees from multiple paygroups are being addressed by changes in payroll
processing.
In several other areas, important but less
evident difficulties have arisen where particular processes require complex
data integration, i.e., where the system draws data from different modules
to complete the required function. Student Financials and Financial
Aid processes in particular have required unexpected additional work because
of unresolved issues in the delivered product, and Project ORION team members
have worked with unusual dedication to complete the work in a timely and
effective way.
Implementation of those modules included
in the university's Y2K plan continues on schedule. Other issues
are being addressed by the project team, with assistance from vendors and
consultants. The support of the campus community and project sponsors
continues to be an important element of project success. Comments
and concerns about these matters and about Project ORION in general can
be directed to the Project
Management Team.
