System prototyping and deployment

• Completed initial prototyping for Human Resources and Student Administration modules
• Completed transition to deployment phase for system specification and user testing
• Began system processing on SR70 server
• Researched ancillary software support for e-mail and Web applications
• Revised project implementation schedule to accommodate the Release 7.5 upgrade during the first quarter of 1999
• Participated in research on purchase of a document-imaging system for university service
• Continued data conversion and interface installation for implementation
• Scheduled contract for a new interactive voice response (IVR)/TouchTone system after July 1998

Policy and operational issues

• Continued timely review and resolution of policy and operation issues

Training and knowledge transfer

• Continued PeopleSoft training for technical and functional staff members
• Scheduled on-site Crystal software training for functional users
• Designated software training rooms for use in the implementation phase
• Participated in the International Human Resources Information Management Conference as discussant on Project ORION
• Established system prototyping and training teams in each academic unit
• Continued participation in PeopleSoft Higher Education special-interest group

Staffing

• Reallocated IT staff (3.5 FTE) to Project ORION teams for additional project support
• Identified long-term additional CAR staff to support production environment
• Proposed appointment of a university data administrator to regulate field taxonomy and analyze policy and operational issues in shared databases

Issues

• Unanticipated software expenses and additional consulting required by incomplete state of the PeopleSoft system during prototyping continues to be addressed by resource reallocations within the project.
• System speed in test processing continues to be analyzed for improvements.

Activities for July-September 1998:

• Continue initial deployment specifications and user testing, data conversion and interface installation in preparation for module implementation, beginning in November 1998
• Continue timely issues resolution and frequent communication with all project sponsors, constituency senates, and project stakeholders
