Order of Business
Dean Howarth introduced Dr. Sutton, who reviewed draft plans for the
PeopleSoft degree audit and transfer credit equivalency projects, including
project goals, team structure, and work timelines and emphasizing the academic
units' leadership in the success of the project.
Discussion followed about the aims and focus of the project with emphasis on the compression of the timeline and means by which it might be relieved, especially in the College of Arts and Sciences; securing PeopleSoft information concerning the system structure and logic so that teams could anticipate problems in reconciling the system with our customary practices; and the identification, support and recognition of team members, both faculty and staff.
Dr. Howarth and Dr. Sutton agreed to consult with ORION team members about the feasibility of putting the degree program and general education audits on to different but parallel timelines, and Dr. Howarth asked the deans to consider personnel adjustments in their units to allow for their representatives' assignment to the work teams for the project.
Revised wording for the draft plan's purpose statement was proposed for consideration:
"The purpose of the Academic Degree Audit Project Team (ADAPT) will be to direct the process by which academic decisions necessary to establish the new General Education Requirements for use beginning in the Fall 2001 semester. These decisions shall be made timely available to the ORION team members so that the ORION system will accurately and fully reflect the new program during freshman orientation in the summer of 2001."Dr. Howarth will contact unit representatives with the dates and times of the next meetings within the next week.
