Detailed Description and Options

PeopleSoft currently does not provide any edits (free form) when inputing a county for a person. County is input into numerous panels (around 23 objects) and is used for reporting. The council on Post Secondary Education requires reporting the county for Ky residents and Indiana residents in fivesurrounding counties. The current system has edit tables for county input to insure data integrity. Tomaintain this data integrity in PeopleSoft, a drop down box (prompt table) is needed.

Options

1) Modify PS to permit a drop down box for county selection/input.

Pro - Accurate counties will be input.

Con - Requires customization to PS.

Estimate of 32 programming hours:

- Table needs to be created.

- Between 15-20 panels need modified.

- Panerl for prompt table input needs developed.

2) Leave as-is.

Pro - No PS customization is required.

Con - A manual cleanup effort is needed before each report (each semester) is

run to insure no keying errors occurred. The ongoing cleanup effort would offset

the hours spent on programming.

- Decentralized reporting may select invalid data at any given time.

PMT reviewed the issue and approved option 1 for customization 07/09/98.
