Project ORION IssuesThe scope and prototyping phases of the project included a "fit analysis" during which the new software system's operations and functions were compared to the university's policies and procedures. In most cases, the software has accommodated university practice. In the rare cases of divergence, the university has followed a consultative process (the issues resolution plan) to determine whether the relevant business practice should be changed or the software customized. An early decision to make a "vanilla" implementation (that is, to make as few customizations as possible) has directed the project management in most cases to avoid the additional implementation expense and future costs of any customization that must be made again when the software is updated in a new release. These implementation and policy issues are indexed in a database for review and comment by the university community.
