Self-service Applications

Information Technology will implement the next phase of the Orion project on Monday April 8, 2002. Peoplesoft self-service allowing for individuals to modify employee name, phone numbers and address information will be enabled. Additionally, creation of LAN, GroupWise and PeopleSoft accounts will be automated. This change applies to ALL employees, please read this note in its entirety.

Implementation of the first phase in February provided the following benefits:

  • Consolidation of passwords for Local Area Network (LAN) accounts, GroupWise accounts and PeopleSoft accounts
  • Synchronization of the GroupWise address book and online directory name with the PeopleSoft system
  • Enhanced Web access to PeopleSoft

This phase of the Orion implementation will provide enhanced productivity for faculty/staff and students as early as their first day of employment or upon admission to the University.

Enhancements include:

Faculty/Staff

  • The enabling of “self-service” within Peoplesoft to allow employees to modify their own information items:
    • Office and cellular phone, fax and pager numbers
    • Home and mailing addresses
    • Directory name, the name that appears in the GroupWise address book and the online directory. Only first and middle names maybe modified through self-service. An exception process for modifying last names is being developed by Human Resources
    • Self–service will be available on the Peoplesoft campus portal (ULink) web page, available from the faculty and staff page on UofL’s web site, as well as News Break
  • The automated creation of GroupWise, LAN and PeopleSoft accounts for new employees

Please note: GroupWise and LAN accounts will automatically be closed when an employee leaves the University. However, PeopleSoft accounts will remain open to allow access to self-service.
  • The ability to display cellular phone and pager numbers within the GroupWise address book

Students

  • The automated creation of Peoplesoft accounts when a student applies for admission to the University
  • The automated creation of GroupWise accounts for HSC students upon admission

Future phases will provide enhanced self-services for students, including web registration, access to transcripts, and much more.
