Melinda VanArsdale, CPA
Melinda VanArsdale, CPA, has been Business Manager for the Tennis Center since it opened in September 1994. An Alumnus of the University of Louisville, she brought several years of public accounting skills and expertise to the job of starting a brand new business office. She was instrumental in developing the Tennis Center website and Tennis Center brochure and continues to maintain them.
Melinda is a native of Louisville and attended Fern Creek High School, where she was involved in FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), Junior Achievement, and several clubs: Beta Club (honor society), German, Drama, and Pep Clubs. She received Certificates of Merit in German and in U.S. History, and an award for the best accounting grade. Melinda was also awarded a scholarship from the Fern Creek Women's Club.
After graduating 12th in her high school class May 1984, Melinda went on to attend the University of Louisville, where she majored in accounting. While in college, she was on The Dean's List each semester and was also in The National Dean's List (publication). She received the Coopers & Lybrand Accountancy Award, and was involved in several honor societies: Mortar Board Senior Honor Society (service oriented), Golden Key National Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Phi Eta Sigma, Beta Gamma Sigma National Honor Society, and Beta Alpha Psi (Accounting Fraternity). Melinda was also heavily involved in several church activities and served as Deacon of the Church Council, Officer of the Young Adults Group, choir member, and was on the audit and finance committees.
In May 1988, she graduated with honors (top 5% of class) with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She received an award for passing the CPA exam on the 1st attempt in November 1988 (approx. 10% of exam participants pass on the first attempt). Melinda spent the next six years in public accounting (earning her CPA license March 1991).
In addition to her duties as Business Manager for the Tennis Center, Melinda has also employed by the Intramurals department as an aerobics instructor. Summer 2004 she was presented a service award in appreciation for her “outstanding service and dedication to the University of Louisville Intramurals Sports Department.” In 2012 she was awarded “Outstanding Group Fitness Instructor of the Year.” Melinda now also performs office functions for the varsity tennis teams as well.
Melinda has two children: a daughter, Christal, and a son, Nicholaus. Besides being a mother, Melinda's interests include a regular personal exercise program, attending St. Paul’s United Methodist Church (where she is a member of the church choir), singing/playing music, dancing, camping, gardening, and reading. She also is involved in charity work through community and church when her busy schedule allows. She feels her mission in life is to help others become the best version of themselves they can possibly be!
