Sharon LaRue, Director

Ms. LaRue, a Certified Professional Art Therapist, is an alumnus of the University of Louisville receiving a MA degree in Expressive Therapies. She earned a BLS degree in Art Therapy from the University of Memphis where she developed a Children's Coloring Book to be used by The Memphis Child Advocacy Center for the prevention and treatment of child abuse. In addition, Ms. LaRue has presented "Using Art Therapy with Survivors of Abuse" to The Minister of Social Services, Grand Bahama Island, Bahamas, and "Utilization of Mandalas in Art Therapy", to The University of Linkoping Drama Therapy Class, Linkoping, Sweden.

In her current role as Director of the PEACC Program, a federally funded program working to eliminate violence against women at the University of Louisville through Prevention, Education, and Advocacy, on Campus and Community, Ms. LaRue is responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures relating to violence against women on a college campus. She also provides trainings for faculty, staff, and students at the University of Louisville; develops and maintain contacts with local, regional, and national interest groups; and provides advocacy for victims of violence. Ms. LaRue co-presented the results of research supported by The PEACC Program at state and national conferences. This research and ensuing programming
implemented at the University of Louisville can be used as a model for other universities to initiate programs to assist victims of violence on their own college campuses.

Melanie Evans, Volunteer Coordinator

Melanie Evans is pursuing her master’s degree in College Student Personnel at the University of Louisville.  She graduated from Western Kentucky University with a bachelor’s degree in Corporate and Organizational Communication.  While living in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Melanie developed a passion for working with women’s issues through volunteering for five years at Hope Harbor, Inc., a rape crisis and prevention center.  She is excited to work with PEACC to help educate the campus and community about issues of violence against women. 

 

Shawn Reilly , Men of PEACC Coordinator

Shawn Reilly is pursuing his under graduate degree in Political Science at the University of Louisville. He graduated from Trinity High School here in Louisville in 2001. While at U of L Shawn meet Sharon LaRue and the other PEACC staff and soon developed a passion for working with women’s issues. In September he jumped head first into the school year with Take Back The Night and the White Ribbon Campaign, two of the biggest events organized by PEACC. Shawn is also enthusiastic to work with PEACC to help educate the campus and community about issues of violence against women so that one day women will not be afraid in their own community.
