Dear Colleague,
Sponsored by the National Science Foundation, the Materials Research Science & Engineering Center at Northwestern University offers paid research programs for undergraduate science majors and middle school, high school, and college science teachers.
We are recruiting undergraduates and teachers for the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) and Research Experience for Teachers (RET) Programs at Northwestern University (NU).
The REU Program provides research projects in materials science, chemistry, physics, and engineering to undergraduates in the United States. The program runs for 9 weeks from June 19 - August 18, 2006 at Northwestern University's state-of-the-art facilities. Each participant receives a stipend of $4,500 for full participation in the program. For an application and program information, please visit http://www.mrsec.northwestern.edu/mrsec/education/edu_reu.htm. REU Application Deadline = February 15, 2006.
The Teachers program (RET) runs for 8 weeks from June 19 - August 11, 2006. During the summer, teachers focus on a research project and create a curriculum concept for their students based on their research. Each teacher receives a stipend of $5,500 for full participation in the program. For an application and program information, please visit http://www.mrsec.northwestern.edu/mrsec/education/edu_ret.htm.
RET Application Deadline = March 15, 2006.
The Materials Research Science & Engineering Center at Northwestern features a group of outstanding faculty, who conduct a variety of research within their smaller interdisciplinary research groups (IRGs). Research participants will have the opportunity to select a project from one of these groups and work closely with a faculty mentor and graduate student or post doctoral fellow. Former interns have benefited from their summer experience at NU by receiving excellent recommendations from Northwestern University faculty members for jobs or applications to graduate school and by publishing their research in scientific journals.
Typically, we process all of the applications two to three weeks after the deadline. We have a rolling admissions; therefore, outstanding applicants may be notified before the deadline.
Online applications for both programs are available at http://www.mrsec.northwestern.edu/mrsec/education/edu_intro.htm.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
I would appreciate if you could distribute this e-mail to any organizations/students/teachers who may be interested in these programs.
Sincere regards,
Laura Ernst
