    Chair's Message

Welcome to the Louisville American Chemical Society Local Section Home
Page. The Section is headquartered in Louisville, KY and is about 400
members strong. Our members work in higher education, K-12, chemical
manufacturing, chemical products manufacturing, chemical and
environmental analysis, public health, biotechnology, government, and
many other areas. The Louisville Section sponsors programs which help
introduce the public of all ages to the worlds of science, assist
members in career development, and which recognize the accomplishments
of students in the "Kentuckiana" region we encompass. Use our website
to find out more about us, our activities and the scope and impact of
the American Chemical Society nationally and worldwide.

Esteemed Colleagues: the American Chemical Society Louisville Section is considering the possibility of hosting a meeting of the Southeast Region. These regional meetings (a fall event in the Southeast Region) are shorter and smaller versions of the national events and feature short oral presentations, posters, symposia and exposition. The Louisville Section has hosted two regional meetings in the past, in(circa) 1966 and 1986 (a memorable event and a great recruiting tool). In contrast to these prior events, the National A.C.S. Office now handles much of the "legwork" necessary for hosting such a scientific meeting. Still, taking on such a task will require the active participation of scientists on both University of Louisville campuses as well as those from other schools and local industry. The purpose of this brief note is to elicit YOUR RESPONSE to the possibility of taking on this task for organizing a meeting within the next 5 years or so. What the Section is looking for are people willing to take on STEERING COMMITTEE responsbilities. We'll need a couple dozen hearty souls to get started. Email willingness to kgtaylor@louisville.edu
