Overview

The University of Louisville’s J.B. Speed School of Engineering has been educating technical professionals since 1924 and features classes and research taught by internationally recognized faculty as well as state-of-the-art computer and networking laboratories. The Master of Science in Computer Science program is available for interested individuals who have an adequate background, but do not necessarily have a baccalaureate degree in engineering or computer science. The program areas include foundations, software, analytics, electives and a project option. Students may complete the program entirely online, or combine online classes with on-campus classes.

Admission

In addition to completing the application for admission and paying the $60 non-refundable application fee, applicants must provide:

  • Evidence of a bachelor's degree and 2.75 cumulative grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale
  • Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work
  • General test score on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) of 1000 (verbal + quantitative)

Prerequisites for those who do not have an undergraduate degree in computer science:

  • Successful completion of CECS 121 (Program Design in C), 230 (Intro to C.S. & Engineering), 302 (Information Structures), 303 (Program Design in C++), 310 (Discrete Structures), 325, 335 (Design/File Structures), 420 (Design/Operating Systems) and 440 (Object Oriented Design) or their equivalents and IE 360 (Probability and Statistics for Engineers)

Conditional admission is possible. Determinations are made on a case-by-case basis.
