In 2003, the U of L School of Nursing was ranked 46 of 98 among schools of nursing nationally that received NIH funding.
The School of Nursing has a research intensive environment that supports faculty research programs. A Research Office provides support for proposal development and grant implementation. A staff of research associates, graduate research assistants, and biostatistical consulting services is available in the Research Office. An external research mentor program was established in 1998 and 14 faculty have received research mentoring through this program.
A strategic goal of the school is to engage undergraduate and graduate students in the research process. Many students work on faculty research and present posters at professional meetings. The Research Committee is very active in promoting a mentored experience for students to attend regional and national nursing research meetings. Funding for these activities is contributed by alumni and a small endowment fund to support student research.
