Patient Education
- Healthfinder
From the Department of Health and Human Services. Topics such as prevention & wellness, diseases & conditions, and alternative medicines are provided. Additional resources include medical dictionaries, an encyclopedia, journal access, and more.Special health topics are organized by age from kids to seniors as well as by race and ethnicity. Information about doctors, dentists, public clinics, hospitals, long term care, nursing homes, health insurance, prescriptions, health fraud, Medicare, Medicaid, and medical privacy are also included. Healthfinder resources are also available in Spanish at http://www.healthfinder.gov/espanol.

- Health Translations Directory - This directory links to online multilingual health resources from government departments, peak health bodies, hospitals, community health centres and welfare agencies. Health practitioners who work with culturally and linguistically diverse communities can use this directory to find reliable translated health information. Search by topic, by language, or both. Your search results will include an English summary of the information, a link to a complete English language version and a link to information in the language you requested.
- National Network for Immunization Information (NNii) has a free comprehensive immunization kit to help healthcare providers discuss immunization with their patients. The kit provides accessible information on everything from immunization recommendations to common questions and concerns. All materials are the product of extensive research with parents, physicians, nurses, immunization experts, and risk communication specialists.The kit is available in the Adobe Acrobat PDF format. - Spanish Language Patient Education Materials
This site, a collaboration between the U. of Utah Health Science Center and the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library, provides patient education materials on various topics in Spanish.
- Centers for Disease Control
Selected patient education materials from the CDC are also available in Spanish at www.cdc.gov/spanish .Website information is translated so that Spanish speaking users can navigate the resources provided here. Topics include allergies, tobacco, illness, immunizations, mental health, dental topics and more.
- USCRI Healthy Living Toolkit
Designed to educate refugees and immigrants to become proactive health consumers and promoters in their communities. The Toolkit supports health professionals, health promoters, ESL teachers, resettlement case managers in assisting refugees and immigrants to navigate the health system in order to reduce the health disparities among these populations. The toolkit has been developed in a culturally appropriate manner. It contains a Quality & Culture Quiz, as well as information on several ethnic groups, along with links and other resources. - Ethnicity Online - an extensive website developed to ddress the need for a better understanding of ethnic differences in healthcare. Great resource.

University of Michigan Health System's comprehensive website contains generalizations on 25 ethnic and religious groups, along with numerous tools and resources for providing culturally competent care. - Cultural Competence Resources for Health Care Providers
The US Department of Health Resources and Services Administration site contains links to websites and articles that can be used by health care providers. It includes information on assessment tools, culture and language specific groups, and specific diseases/conditions associated with various ethnic groups, as well as information on training curricula. - Cultural Competency in Medicine
A teaching module produced by the American Medical Student Association, designed to help medical students become culturally competent. Suggests activities, provides brief case studies for individual or group learning experiences, definitions, criteria for culturally competent care, questions for physicians and patients, suggestions for using interpreters, and list of references. - Culture Clues

- Learn about Hispanic US Cultural Views on Health Issues
Part of The Pew Charitable Trusts, The Pew Hispanic Center provides resources that improve the understanding of the U.S. Hispanic population. Health resources include links to information about current trends in Hispanic health as well as some information about cultural views on health issues. - Hispanic American Health Beliefs and Practices
From Charles Kemp, a specialist in refugee and immigrant health at Baylor University, this site is a well documented resource for topics relating to Hispanic health beliefs and practices. Cultural information on communication, social relations, social problems and risk topics for immigrants is included. Citations and external links provide resources for further research.
