UofL professor named Indiana University Alumni Legacy Leader

M. Cynthia Logsdon, PhD, APRN, FAAN, professor, University of Louisville School of Nursing, has been selected as one of 100 Alumni Legacy Leaders byM. Cynthia Logsdon Indiana University School of Nursing during its Centennial year. This award recognizes exceptional contributions to nursing through education, clinical practice, leadership and research. A competitive submission and review process was used to select the 100 honorees, chosen from more than 30,000 alumni.

In her academic role, Logsdon leads efforts to foster faculty and student scholarship, women’s health, and leadership development of women. 

In addition to her leadership role at the UofL School of Nursing, Logsdon is the associate chief of nursing for research at the University of Louisville Hospital (ULH), a part of KentuckyOne Health. At ULH, Logsdon works with 800 direct care nurses and 50 nurse leaders to foster a climate of clinical inquiry and nursing excellence, as the organization journeys towards American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet designation.

Throughout her career, Logsdon has served as Principal Investigator for interdisciplinary research teams on externally funded research projects, and has received recognition for her work. In 2011, she co-edited the book, Maternal Sensitivity: A Scientific Foundation for Practice, which was nominated for an American Journal of Nursing Book of Year Award. In 2009, she received the International Nursing Research Dissemination Award from Sigma Theta Tau, International, based on the website she created in partnership with MediSpin, Inc., for health professionals and consumers on postpartum depression. Her influence on nursing and national health was recognized in 2006 when she was inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing. A year earlier, Logsdon received the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetrics, and Neonatal Nursing Research Award.

Logsdon serves on the editorial board of Archives of Women’s Mental Health. She also sits on the President’s Advisory Panel of Postpartum Support International and is co-chair of the Expert Panel on Child/Adolescent/Family Nursing of the American Academy of Nursing. A national expert on maternal child health programs, she serves as an invited reviewer for funding applications to the Health Resources Services Administration, United States Department of Health and Human Services.

Logsdon’s previous leadership roles include service on the Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Neonatal Nursing editorial board; Research Advisory Board of Association of Women’s Health, Obstetrics, & Neonatal Nursing; Board of Directors of Midwest Nursing Research Society; and Board of Directors of Postpartum Support International.

Logsdon will be honored on June 21 as part of the 100th anniversary Celebration weekend.
