Guaranteed Early Admission


High School Seniors

The Guaranteed Early Admissions program is available to high school seniors that plan to enroll as first time freshman at the University of Louisville and major in nursing. A minimum of ten spaces are reserved each academic year. These spaces are awarded based on the student's competitive application. Students apply while enrolled in their senior year of high school.


Native College Freshmen

The Guaranteed Early Admission (GEA) program is available to first-year University of Louisville freshmen. Forty spaces are reserved in Upper Division each academic year for first-year, full-time college freshmen, who enter the University of Louisville in the Fall semester. First-year college freshmen nursing majors are eligible to apply in the spring of their first year of enrollment at UofL for guaranteed admission to a specific semester cohort.

Guaranteed Early Admission (GEA) High School Seniors

The Guaranteed Early Admissions program is available to high school seniors that plan to enroll as first time freshman at the University of Louisville and major in nursing.   A minimum of ten spaces are reserved each academic year. These spaces are awarded based on the student's competitive application.  Students apply while enrolled in their senior year of high school.  The deadline to complete the application link below, is November 15th. Students will be notified of their decision in December.

To be considered as a high school senior for guaranteed admission into upper division, an applicant must: 

  • Have a minimum high school grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted).
  • Score of a minimum composite ACT of 25 or SAT 590.
  • Score a minimum Math ACT sub-score of 25 or SAT MSS 590.
  • Have a first-time freshman application on file with UL.

Application Requirements:

  • An essay of 500 words or less describing your interest in a career in nursing.
  • School of Nursing GEA application, available on the School of Nursing website.
  • Deadline is November 15th of student's senior year of high school.

To Maintain GEA Status:

  • Accept a specific Fall semester upper division start date.  Spring Upper Division semester start dates are not an option.
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 each semester of enrollment in Lower Division.
  • No repeats of required science or nursing courses:  BIO 102, CHEM 105, BIO 260, BIO 261, BIO 262, BIO 257, BIO 258, NURS 338, NURS 395.
  • Must complete a minimum of 5 science courses, with labs, during freshman year of college: BIO 102, CHEM 105, BIO 260, BIO 261, BIO 262, BIO 257, BIO 258.

Guaranteed Early Admission (GEA) Native College Freshmen

Deadline - April 1st

Guaranteed Early Admission (GEA) is a competitive admissions process. Forty spaces are reserved each academic year for first-year, full-time college freshmen from the University of Louisville, who enter the University of Louisville in the fall semester. This application is not open to transfer students. Freshmen nursing majors are eligible to apply in the spring of their first year of enrollment at UofL for guaranteed admission to a specific semester cohort. The deadline is April 1st each year. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Successful completion of NURS 101.
  • Successful completion of the first year of full-time coursework with a minimum 3.25.
  • Completion of CHEM 105 and BIO 102 (or their equivalents) with a minimum grade of B.

Students selected for early admission will be required to maintain a 3.25 GPA in Lower Division and will agree to begin Upper Division courses in the specified academic term.  If the awarded GEA does not notify the School of Nursing that he/she is ready to begin Upper Division for the semester selected below, he/she will forfeit the GEA status and must reapply with the general applicant pool to compete for a space in Upper Division.  

Reminder: Students awarded GEA spots, MUST still apply for Upper Division by completing both the Upper Division application and the background check for the semester they plan to start Upper Division. GEA students are not required to provide the essay again in the Upper Division application. Admissions decisions emailed to the @louisville.edu CardMail address provided on this application.
