U of L Student Grievance Procedure - The School of Nursing follows the university's procedures for academic grievances. Information is also provided in the nursing student handbooks.


Advising

Undergraduate nursing students in the following categories are required to be advised:

  • freshman with fewer than 30 hours
  • Transfer, first semester admits
  • Conditional Admit Status
  • Academic Warning
  • Academic Probation
  • Graduate students in the following categories are required to be advised:
  • Non-degree Admit Status
  • Conditional Admit Status
  • No approved program of study on file

School of Nursing students who need advising should contact the Office of Student Services at 852-1196 to schedule an appointment. Advisors' offices are located on the 3rd floor of the "K" Building on the Health Sciences Center, and appointments are available on Belknap during registration for continuing undergraduate students. Any student not in one of the above categories is encouraged to schedule an advising appointment if assistance is needed regarding course selection.

Graduation/Commencement


Commencement is held twice a year, in May and December. Nursing students completing a program in August may participate in December Commencement. For complete information on U of L Commencement, please access the following site: http://www.louisville.edu/commencement

Commencement
The university-wide commencement and the appropriate unit convocations hosted by the colleges and schools will be held May and December each year. All students participating in commencement or convocation programs must file an intent to participate and must order academic apparel. Students with questions regarding participation in commencement may contact the University's Office of Student Services at (502) 852-6528 or 852-5813. Students with questions regarding the School of Nursing Convocation may contact Susan Cook at (502) 852-3502 or by email Susan Cook.

Degree Applications
Students must submit an online application for degree by the published deadline (see appropriate academic calendar for graduation term at: http://www.louisville.edu/ur/onpi/infoctr/undergrad.htm.) To submit an online application, go to ULink. After you log on, go under Student Services, click on "Registration/Student Services". Under that click on "Degree Application".
If students have problems, they can call the Director of Student Services at 852-8298 for help.
 

Nursing Scholarships

The School of Nursing annually awards a limited number of scholarships to students admitted to the upper division and graduate programs. The deadline to apply for the upcoming academic year is April 15th. The scholarships are awarded for one academic year. Applications are reviewed by the Academic Affairs Committee. The committee makes recommendation to the dean who makes the final decision. Recipients are notified by the end of June. Applications are available in the lobby of the 3rd floor of the School of Nursing.

The following scholarships are available to nursing students:

Hettie A. and Richard B. Morgan Scholarship Fund
Open to nursing students who have participated to a significant extent in some type of community service on a volunteer basis.Eligible: B.S.N., R.N.-B.S.N., 2nd Degree B.S.N., M.S.N.

Maria A. Parel Scholarship
This scholarship was created with the intention of creating a student body of individuals with diverse backgrounds. Priority will go to applicants of Filipino-American ethnic origin.

Emily Van Bever Turner and Evalyn Van Bever Perkins Nursing Scholarship
Open to students from Appalachia, based on financial need and the promise of excellence in the profession of nursing. Eligible: B.S.N., R.N.-B.S.N., 2nd Degree B.S.N.

Elizabeth Pritchett Sasse Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established to encourage an individual who wants to be a nurse but lacks financial resources.

Patricia Thrasher Arnold Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established for needy and deserving non-tradition students.

School of Nursing Fund/Humana Scholars Fund in Nursing
General scholarship to be awarded for needy students with above average academic ability. Eligible: B.S.N., R.N.-B.S.N., 2nd Degree B.S.N., M.S.N.

Traineeships
The University of Louisville School of Nursing competes annually for grant funding made available under Title VIII of the Public Health Service Act, Nursing Education and Practice Improvement Act. Each year there are potential traineeship monies that will pay all or part of the costs of the tuition, books, and fees of the program of advanced nurse education. Students registered for full-time graduate study in nursing are invited to apply for traineeships (as available) by April 15th of each year.

Transcripts and Grades

Official and Unofficial Transcripts

Students may request official transcripts on-line through the university registrar's office. Students may also now print unofficial transcripts on-line. To request an official transcript, or to print an unofficial transcript, please visit: http://www.louisville.edu/student/services/registrar/services.htm
Official transcript requests usually take 3-5 business days to be processed and mailed. Students may also request transcripts by going directly to the Registrar's Office on Belknap campus.

Grades

Students can access their grade reports on-line through the Registrar's Office. Students can currently access grade reports for each semester they have completed. Access your grades online.
