Core Curriculum Concepts

Do you have to teach dance concepts, but don’t know a thing about it?   Do you want a fresh approach to the curriculum you are already teaching?     Do you want to better understand the Core Content/program of studies for Dance and Humanities?   Would you like an affordable way for your students to see a live dance performance?

The University of Louisville Dance Academy is proud to make available to the community a wide variety of educational enrichment programs designed to share the excitement and wonder of dance to all who seek to know more about its fundamental elements, its rich and glorious history, and its ability to move and engage us as only dance can.  We invite you to investigate any of the following programs and open the door to the world’s most exciting art form.

1) Clara’s Dream

The University of Louisville Dance Theatre presents a special student performance of its highly acclaimed holiday ballet production.  Clara’s Dream is the familiar tale of the Nutcracker starting with Clara’s wondrous dream voyage to the Land of Sweets where she encounters Snowflakes, Angels, exotic Arabian dancers, dancers from other lands, and the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Prince.  This colorful and lively production delights audiences of all ages.

Reservations only.   These performances sell out very quickly, so reserve early.

U of L Dance Theatre invites your students to participate in a special instructional program designed to deepen their understanding of the core curriculum in dance with a special emphasis on creating and performing.

Suitable for grades 5-11, this program engages your students in a variety of educational exercises.  The basic dance elements they explore are then illustrated through special performances by the dancers of the U of L Dance Theatre.

This interactive Lecture-Demonstration illustrates dance’s basic components:  space, time, and energy.  Each of the components is explained and explored through a number of simple fun activities.  These activities are then further demonstrated through video-/performance examples specially selected to illustrate core curriculum concepts.  This is an enjoyable, educational and enriching program tailor-made for students and all those who wish to know more about this most exciting art form.

Grades 4-12, maximum 31 students.
