UofL’s Music eX Series features piano and strings for music scholarships

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The works of some of the world’s best composers will be featured in a concert series for piano and strings at the University of Louisville School of Music. The Music eX Series seeks to raise funds for student scholarships by offering four concerts.

Dror Biran, artistic director and UofL piano professor, will perform with a variety of guest artists and fellow faculty. Born in Israel and winner of top international prizes, Biran established the Music eX Series to support talented students in the same way he was helped as he launched his musical career.
“The series supports the continuity of the piano and string programs at the School of Music,” Biran said. “These programs nourish young talent and prepare them to lead prominent roles in the musical cultural scene both locally and nationally.”
All concerts begin at 3 p.m. in the Margaret Comstock Concert Hall. The schedule is:

  • Sept. 22, all-Beethoven recital including the famous “Kreutzer Sonata,” features faculty artist J. Patrick Rafferty, violin
  • Nov. 3, duo piano celebration for the holiday season including pieces by Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, features guest artist Zahari Metchkov from the University of Colorado
  • March 2, 2014, solo piano pieces by Chopin and Beethoven and premiere of “Legend: A Homage to Robert Schumann” by James Wilding, piano solo
